2009-Projects of the Year

2009 Project of the Year New Installation: Hampton Roads Harbor, Va.

A 10-mile pipeline that will connect the north and south sides of Hampton Roads Harbor — made possible through onshore and marine horizontal directional drilling — will allow Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) to expand capabilities to serve a growing customer base and will also open new doors for HDD projects, industry experts say.

2009 Project of the Year New Installation Runner Up: A-Line Relief Interceptor, Phase 2A

Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (CCCSD) and the City of Concord (City) teamed with Carollo Engineers, DCM-GeoEngineers and Bennett Trenchless Engineers to design and manage the construction of a new interceptor sewer that will eliminate the need for a 50-mgd pumping station.

2009 Project of the Year Honorable Mention New Installation:

Honorable Mention: Overpeck Valley Parallel Relief Sewer

Honorable Mention: Estrella to Stockham, Ariz., Auger Boring Project

2009 Project of the Year Rehabilitation: Renewing WSSC’s

Serving nearly 2 million people in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is the eighth largest water and wastewater utility in the country, operating and maintaining nearly 5,500 miles of water main lines and more than 5,300 miles of sewer main lines. As you might expect, making sure that all the pipelines are in good condition is quite a challenge.

2009 Project of the Year Rehabilitation Runner Up: Deep Interceptors in Mexico City

Mexico City’s drainage system is corroding at an alarming rate. Mexico City, one of the most populous cities in the world, has more than 100 miles of combined sewers, and because of the large population (more than 20 million in the metropolitan area) and high amounts of rainfall, the combined sewers are very large, 5 m (16 ft, 4 in.) in diameter. Further complicating matters was the fact that the tunnels are 200 ft  deep.

2009 Project of the Year Honorable Mention Rehabilitation:

Honorable Mention: Madison Avenue Water Main Rehabilitation

Honorable Mention: Emergency Structural Rehabilitation of a Mile-Long 7-ft Diameter Pipeline
