2008 Project of the Year New Installation:


Earlier this year, as the Kiewit-Bilfinger Berger JV approached drives four and five of the microtunneled portion of the East Side CSO Tunnel Project, the JV, Parsons Brinckerhoff, and the City of Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) agreed to eliminate the intermediate shaft. As a result, the 1,934-ft and 991-ft drives would be combined for one continuous 3,000-lf drive.

As cities grow in size, their infrastructure must also expand to accommodate the new additions — before the burgeoning population becomes too great of a burden on existing structures.

2008 Project of the Year Rehabilitation:

The Bear Creek Power Generating Station project is one of those projects that contractors love. It has challenges but every project has its own set of those. It’s projects like Bear Creek that gets the adrenalin and brain power flowing, allowing the contractor to use all their know-how to get the job done.

2008 Project of the Year Rehabilitation Runner Up:

To keep infrastructure working properly year after year, it must be regularly maintained and often rehabbed to continue working at its peak level — which was the case at the Camden County, N.J., Water Treatment Plant Outfall System.
